Two PhD Position in Chemistry Available in the Group of Dr. Amit Kumar (Associate Professor,  CNMS, Jain University). Applications are invited for one post of a Junior Research Fellow in a DST­sponsored research project (letter no.CS­097/2013) entitled in Discipline of Chemistry, Centre for Nano and Material Sciences (CNMS), Jain University Bangalore, Karnataka.

Qualification and Experience:

  1. MSc. in Chemistry,  Candidate should  have obtained at  least  55%  marks  in  qualifying degree examination
  2. Preference will be given to CSIR­UGC NET (JRF/LS) or GATE qualified candidate. 
  3. The ability to work  closely  and collaborate with colleagues  is  a must.  Proficiency with the English language is required

Stipend: as per university rule.

The salary andappointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students

Duration: Initial appointment for one year, extendable up to 3 yrs based on performance. 

Objective of the 3 years position is a number of research articles in peer­reviewed scientific journals, together comprising the PhD thesis leading to the granting of the PhD degree at the Jain University.

Walk in for interview on 14th July 2015 along with a set of photocopies of the qualifying examination marks sheets, degree certificates, recent passport size photographs, two reference letters and Rs. 1000 towards PhD application fees (if selected).

Please also note that, in case if you are selected for a JRF position, your PhD registration will be followed very soon and for that you will have to attend an Entrance examination, which is scheduled on July 26, 2015.

How to reach CNMS: Take either city bus/auto rickshaw/taxi to Banashankari bus stop from Kempegouda Bus Station/Central Railway Station, Bangalore (45 min by city bus, 19 Rs or 30 min by auto, approx. 100 Rs). Board the bus heading towards Kanakapura either from Banashankari Bus Stop or from any other stops available off Kanakapura Road. Get down at Jain College Stop (around 45-55 mins from Banashankari Stop). Take your left once you entered into the Campus (main gate) or ask the Security to reach ‘Engineering Building’ and we are at level 4 of the same.

Project involves: It is planned to prepare and characterize of New Bioactive molecule and  transition metal complexes with anti­tumor and anti­parasitic  activity,  as  well  as  anti­diabetic  activity  (V­compounds).The influence of the binding of  therapeutic  drugs  to serum proteins  on their transport  by  blood plasma and uptake by  cells  is  well  recognized. 

The stability  and reactivity  of the compounds prepared towards  blood plasma constituents  namely transferring and albumin will be studied to evaluate their bioavailability, as well as their capacity to interact  with DNA.  The toxicity,  anti­tumor and anti­parasitic  activity  will be evaluated in­vitro with adequate cell lines.
