The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library offers Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar Fellowships. The library offers substantial fellowships to support visiting scholars pursuing postdoc or equivalent research in its collections.

Fellowships value: travel to and from New Haven; living allowance $4,000 per month, and are designed to provide access to the library for scholars who live outside the greater New Haven area.

Duration (Short-term Postdoctoral Fellowships): Fellowships must be taken up between September 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020.

Types of fellowships available:

  • Short-term Postdoctoral Fellowships: Granted for one, two, or three months
  • Semester-long Postdoctoral Fellowships (new): meant to support scholarly research within the Beinecke collections for the duration of an academic semester. Applicants for semester-long fellowships must hold a PhD by their intended start date. The fellowships pay for travel costs to and from New Haven and a living allowance of $20,000.

  • Detailed list of specific research materials to be consulted at Beinecke during your fellowship
  • 2 confidential letters of recommendation (to be requested online, via this application form), specifically addressing the merits of the proposed fellowship project (dossier letters will not effectively support your application)
