PhD scholarship: Environmental Microbiology 1847 views

The Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science (KBM) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) invites applications for PhD position within environmental microbiology. The successful candidate will be associated in the NMBU Nitrogen group, which consists of members from the research group Microbial Ecology and Physiology at KBM and partners at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA).

Duration: 3 years
About the position:
  • The selected PhD candidate will work closely with the project leader and a second PhD candidate or Postdoc, with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and highly qualified colleagues.
  • Selected PhD student will mostly time at NMBU, there will be at least one ~3 months stay abroad (University of East Anglia, UK) during the project period.
  • In addition to collaborators at UEA, the project also has connections at the Vrije University (VU) in Amsterdam.
  • The successful candidate is expected to enter a plan for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree during the first months of the appointment, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD scholarship period.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must document expertise and interest in the research subject (microbiology).
  • Applicant must hold a master’s degree within a relevant scientific area.
  • Applicant must at least have experience in two of the following techniques: Molecular techniques, Fluorescence microscopy and image analyses, Proteomics, Enzyme kinetics, Bioinformatics, Mathematical modeling.
