OCE Postdoctoral position in Physics, Australia

A postdoctoral position is available in Gravity Measurement with Atomic Clocks at CSIRO – Australia‘s

CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) Postdoctoral Fellowships. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) is one of the largest and most diverse scientific organisations in the world. By igniting the creative spirit of our people, we deliver great science and innovative solutions that benefit industry, society and the environment.

The postdoc will take the lead in development of practical gravity measurement using atomic clocks.  Our goal is to demonstrate the essential technology that will be required to make world-class, distributed, networked gravity measurements a reality.  The work combines a deep understanding of atomic physics, gravitational measurements as relevant to earth science, and practical laboratory expertise in design and construction of the demonstration apparatus.

The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with several of the leading atomic physics groups in Australia.

The candidate will work in the following aspects:

  • Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Meet with, and learn from scientists who use gravity measurements in other fields to best connect the project with the user community.
  • Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents.
  • Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.
  • Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
