TCIS, TIFR Hyderabad invites applications under the subject board of physics for admissions to its PhD degree programme. The doctoral programme at TCIS offers exciting research opportunities in a range of subject areas, and rigorous training aimed at fostering the broad academic growth of students and to meet the specialized needs of their research. The students will receive a degree through the subject boards of the graduate school of TIFR.
Current research activities at TCIS are in the areas of Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Materials, Chemical Sciences and Optics. Sophisticated experimental facilities involving lasers, NMR and high performance computation support research at TCIS. Students can pursue their Ph.D with any faculty member of TCIS and any subject. Course-work will be as mandated under the physics subject board.
GRADUATE SCHOOL (GS-2015):
Stipend:
Ph.D: Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 25,000/- (enhanced to Rs 28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant Rs.32,000/-.
Integrated Ph.D : Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs.16,000/- for 1st year, Rs. 25,000/- from 2nd year onwards (enhanced to Rs 28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- for 1st year and Rs.32,000/- from 2nd year onwards.
Accommodation is provided to Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. students at a nominal cost.
ELIGIBILITY:
Physics Subject Board::
For Ph.D.: M.Sc. in Physics / M.E. / M.Tech./M.S in (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical & Metallurgical and Materials ) or equivalent.
For I-Ph.D.:B.Sc. in Physics / B.E. / B.Tech. in (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical & Metallurgical and Materials) or equivalent.
In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:
The written test of TIFR (2014 or 2015), GATE (Minimum score of 420 in 2014-2015)/ JEST / CSIR UGC NET (JRF eligible).
Candidates with M.Tech. / M.E. / M.S. (Engg.) can submit their earlier scores of GATE / equivalent.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Selected candidates (based on their academic performance and in the qualifying tests mentioned above) will be called for a personal interview during 13-16th May, 2015 which will be held at TCIS, Hyderabad.
