Postdoctoral position (2 years) in Epidemiology and Public Health at the Centre for Demographic and Ageing Research (CEDAR) 

The Centre for Demographic and Ageing Research (CEDAR), (www.ddb.umu.se/cbs) is a newly established interdisciplinary research unit for demographic and ageing research at Umeå University. The centre hosts a number of powerful population databases including both contemporary and historical longitudinal data. The research includes a variety of research fields, including demographic ageing, participation of the elderly and preconditions for a healthy ageing. 

CEDAR (Unit demography and aging research) is a new interdisciplinary unit for research on demography and aging at Umeå University. The business is based, inter alia, the center’s extensive population databases of both historical and modern data. The research includes studies of the aging population, older people’s participation and opportunities for a healthy and favorable aging.

Project Description

The interdisciplinary research project Paths to a healthy and active aging (financed by FORTE – Research for health, labor and welfare) researchers are studying key issues in today’s aging research including the elderly participation and healthy aging

We are now looking for a post doc in Epidemiology and Public Health in collaboration with the research team will study the epidemiological trends of healthy aging, morbidity and mortality. Applicants should have experience of working with historic and modern Swedish population data linked to questions about the demographic and epidemiological transition. The applicant must have knowledge in handling epidemiological data in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher is the one who has a doctorate in public health and epidemiology at most three years before the application deadline (unless there are special reasons) and have scientific expertise relevant to the position. A prerequisite is that not have been previously employed as a postdoctoral researcher at Umeå University (supported by the agreement of 8 September 2008) for more than a year in the same or adjacent areas. Good command of English both written and spoken is also a requirement. Medical training is desirable.

Project description
In the research programme “Paths to Healthy and Active Ageing”, financed by the FORTE –the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare, an interdisciplinary group of researchers explore key issues in contemporary ageing research, including the participation of the elderly and healthy ageing in a long-term perspective.

We now look for a postdoctoral candidate in epidemiology and public health to join the group and to do research on epidemiological trends in healthy ageing, morbidity and mortality. The candidate should have with experience of working with historical and contemporary Swedish register data, in relation to the demographic and epidemiological transition. The candidate should possess skills in handling large epidemiological data in a multidisciplinary environment.

Competence requirements
A successful candidate should hold a PhD degree in epidemiology and public health. To be eligible for this position, you should have completed your PhD a maximum of three years before the end of the application period. Good skills in written and spoken English are required. A medical doctor degree is desirable.
