The Department of Biosciences invites applications for a TWO-YEAR POST DOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION in the research group of Lasse Ruokolainen.
The Department of Biosciences with its vibrant and collaborative research community of experimental, computational, and theoretical labs that all share a common interested in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Cutting edge infrastructure is available at all levels, including high-performance computer clusters. We collaborate with research groups at Bucknell University, Linköping & Lund University, and Max Planck Institute among others.
The postdoc will participate in the project “Dynamics, ecology & emergence of environmental, opportunistic pathogens”, funded by the Academy of Finland. This project aims at integrating microcosm experiments and theoretical modeling to gain a better understanding of the eco-epidemiology of environmental pathogens. The primary role of the postdoc is to concentrate on modeling host-pathogen dynamics in spatial landscapes.
The postdoc´s main responsibility will be to develop new theory on environmental pathogens, focusing on the role of spatial processes—such as dispersal and heterogeneity. Also, the postdoc will participate in integrating microcosm experiments mathematical modeling. Specific projects within the project are flexible and can be tailored to skills and interest of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate should have PhD / post doctoral experience within the fields of mathematical biology, theoretical ecology, or ecology. A successful applicant should also be fluent in scientific programming (R, Matlab, Python, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required and you must also demonstrate ability to work as part of a team.
The starting date is 1st of November 2015 and the ending date is 31st of October 2017. The employment contract includes a trial period of 4 months.
The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
The minimum salary is 2840€/month plus a maximum of 46% personal share.
