The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland, FIMM, is a partner institution of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory ( together with Nordic nodes for molecular medicine in Norway (NCMM), Sweden (MIMS) and Denmark (DANDRITE). FIMM is currently seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN COMPUTATIONAL GENOMICS

for NIASC (The Nordic Information for Action eScience Center of Excellence) and SISu (Sequencing Initiative Suomi) research project.

NIASC is a Nordic Center of Excellence research project which NordForsk has appointed. The objective of the Nordic Information for Action eScience Center is to develop computer-based tools that allow easier tracking of Nordic biobank samples and data and enhance the capability to use data from national health registries and biobanks in the health care sector (

SISu is an international, collaborative project aiming at cataloguing the near complete sequence information of Finns for genomic studies of health and disease. Collaborative Institutions include FIMM, THL (Institute for Health and Welfare), UCLA, University of Michigan, The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Oxford University and Lund University (

The successful candidate is expected to develop and improve imputation pipelines and construct genome variant data information in GWAS data at FIMM and at the Estonian Genome Center (EGC) and perform association analyses for genotype and phenotype data. The successful candidate will interact with national and international collaborators and participate in collaborative research projects. The work includes harmonising and imputing the genomic variant data as well as conducting and replicating association analyses using data primarily from the Finnish and Estonian population studies. There’s also a possibility for participating in extended analysis combining registry data and reporting.

Qualification and requirements: The successful candidate should hold a doctoral degree or soon to receive one in the field of life science or computational sciences and a strong track record in statistical genetics of common diseases.  The candidate should have fluency in written and spoken English, excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills, strong capability to work independently as well as cooperate harmoniously with other scientists.

Salary and Contract: The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the University salary system and is expected to be in the range of 3297 – 4156 €/month depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher. A two-year contract is available for the position, starting on 1.9.2015.
