Senior Research Fellow/Lecturer in Organic Synthesis of nitrated materials i.e. energetic polymers and compounds, UK
We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow/Lecturer in Organic Systhesis to join the Synthesis and Formulations Group in the Centre for Defence Chemistry.
The post holder will develop and deliver research in organic chemistry with particular regards to nitrated materials i.e. energetic polymers and compounds. The post holder will work on existing research contracts within the Centre and provide the leadership necessary to establish and maintain an international reputation in organic synthesis, working closely with colleagues and making effective use of the facilities.
Main responsibilities include:
Project lead contracts with defence industries on synthesising organic molecules and polymers to be used as energetic materials
- Supervise PhD and MSc students; contribute to the supervision of other students, as required
- Plan and carry out research analysis; demonstrate and maintain research activity of high reputation in the UK and abroad
- Write and present papers at international conferences; write and submit research proposals to the MOD and defence industries to generate income
- Work within a team to undertake research activities and programmes in organic synthesis of energetic materials and energetic polymers to generate income and raise the profile of the School within this area
- Teach and examine courses, take responsibility for design of course units and for their quality, and contribute generally to the development of teaching and teaching methods within the Centre
It is essential that the post holder has a Post graduate education e.g. MSc/MEng in an appropriate field and appropriate teaching experience within the subject specialism. Extensive experience in organic synthesis either from industrial or academic exposure and knowledge of organic synthesis of energetic materials are also essential requirements.
The post holder will have the ability to write and deliver academic papers to a peer reviewed environment and the skills to have an interactive and participative approach to the provision of educational outputs.
The willingness and ability to travel and work overseas with national and international partners is essential.
