The department of Material Science is looking for a postdoc. For the continuation of a project studying processes and phenomena occurring during liquid phase sintering (LPS). The material systems Fe-Cu, Fe-Cu-C and Fe-MA-C (Master alloy (MA) = Cu-Ni-Si additive) have been studied thoroughly by both numerical and experimental techniques. An important part has been phase-field simulations and thermodynamic and kinetic simulations using Thermo-Calc and Dictra for simulating wetting and alloy element redistribution during sintering.
The previous studies make up a very good basis for this continuation project with the aim to characterize and model LPS in powder metallurgical (PM) steel for different types of MA additives. As a postdoc in Material science you will formulate and test a model to predict porosity, make prediction of alloy element distribution during sintering and do simulations of microstructure. In addition, the martensitic transformation will be simulated using phase-field and the start temperature of the martensitic transformation will be modelled.
Qualifications
A suitable background for this position is a PhD within Material Science and experience of modelling and experimental characterization. You must have the abillity to work independently but also cooperate with others, power of initiative, critically analyze, be accurate and on the same time have the abillity to communicate in a good way.
It is considered as an advantage with expirence of thermodynamic and kinetic calculations using Thermo-Calc and Dictra, metallographic characterization using LOM, SEM and EBSD and sound experience of phase-field simulations.
