Postdoctoral in NUTRITION AND METABOLISM and NUTRITIONAL EPIDEMIOLOGY France

An important research activity of the Nutrition Epidemiology Group focuses on methodological research in the field of statistics applied to nutritional epidemiology. The Group plays a leading role in the coordination and maintenance of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC; http://epic.iarc.fr), a large on-going prospective cohort of over 520,000 subjects from 10 Western European Countries.A postdoctoral opportunity is available immediately within the Group to work on an integrated approach to combine self-reported and biomarker estimates of dietary exposure, with the aim of exploring the misclassification inherent in these measurements. The research activity will use Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques to make use of Bayesian statistical inference.

Data will be available from the EPIC study to explore the role of dietary fat in the etiology of breast cancer. The postdoctoral fellow will work in an innovative, well-equipped and scientifically stimulating environment and will have opportunities to interact and collaborate with scientists from IARC and the EPIC network.

Candidates should have a strong background in applied Statistics, particularly of Bayesian methods, a good publication record and experience in analyzing data (using R and WinBUGS and/or JAGS software). Proficiency in English (oral and written) is essential, as well as scientific writing skills.

This postdoctoral opportunity is initially for one year with possibility of renewal for one further year, and is suitable for candidates who have completed a Ph.D with appropriate training in statistics and epidemiology. The IARC postdoctoral stipend is currently €2750 per month. The cost of travel for the fellow, and in certain circumstances for dependants, will be met, a dependant’s allowance paid, and health insurance covered.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Dr Pietro Ferrari or Dr Martyn Plummer (emails: ferrarip@iarc.fr, plummerm@iarc.fr) for informal enquiries. The fellowship should be filled as soon as possible.

Applicants should send a CV, including list of publications and a description of previous research experience, as well as the names and addresses of two academic referees, to:
