Research Associate/Engineer – Embedded Linux and Cyber Security – SCAMPS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as an Embedded Linux and Cyber Security Research Associate/Engineer with the OSNA Cyber Security Research Group at the Discipline of IT, National University of Ireland, Galway.
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is available from 1st August 2015. The contract duration is 12 months, but may be extended for an additional 4 month period subject to funding.
The SCAMPS project is a joint collaboration between the Nimbus Embedded Systems Research Centre at Cork Institute of Technology (www.nimbus.cit.ie) and the OSNA Cyber Security Research Group (www.osna-solutions.com/) at NUI Galway. The project involves domain experts from a wide range of areas including control systems, hardware development, cyber security and cloud infrastructure.
The SCAMPS project has a strong commercial focus and it is envisaged that it will result in a start-up company.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, integration and testing of next generation security frameworks for embedded Linux systems and their cloud backends. (S)he will be based in Galway, but will closely collaborate with the other team members based in Cork, as well as with Irish and International beta testers and trial partners.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in software development, preferably in the cyber security or embedded systems domain.
(S)he must also have very good research and analytical skills, complemented by a good working knowledge, or hands-on experience, with cyber security frameworks and technologies.
Applicants must have a 3rd level qualification in computer science or applied ICT. The ideal candidate would have experience in (embedded) Linux, embedded systems development, Linux-based development tools and tool chains, cloud architectures, system test and integration, and penetration testing. Furthermore, prior experience with the following would be advantageous: DNSSec, Linux packet manager, public key infrastructures (PKI), OpenSSL, VPN, TLS and Snort.
Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills, be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products, and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
While the position ideally suits candidates with a strong cyber security background, we welcome applications from talented graduate engineers with a strong and demonstrated interest in this area.
Salary: €31,993 – 46,255 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
Start date: Position is available from August 1st 2015.
