Job description:
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and dynamic research oriented candidates to join the scientific teams and actively involve themselves and pursue in a challenging project – Catalytic transformation for fine and speciality chemicals under the program – Innovate, develop and up-scale modular, agile, intensified and continuous processes and plants (Indus MAGIC) – sanctioned under XII Five Year Plan at CSIR-CSMCRI.

These posts are purely temporary for the duration of sponsored project/scheme only. It would, therefore, not confer any right/claim implicit or explicit for any candidates for claiming extension or absorption in CSMCRI/CSIR.

Interested candidates meeting with above stated requirements may attend the walk-in-interview scheduled on 25th June 2015 at 10.00 AM in this Institute. They are requested to bring with them a duly filled-in application (also available at www.csmcri.org) giving particulars of (1) Full name and contact details including e-mail and telephone (2) Date of birth and (3) Educational qualifications and experience (if any) (4) Research publications (5) Community category details (6) Publications and (7) CSIR-UGC-NET-LS/ GATE details together with the Xerox copies of relevant certificates/documents/testimonials etc. They are also requested to bring with them the following documents:

  1. Original Certificates(s), Marksheet (s) in support of educational qualifications, certificate in support of the date of birth, experience, testimonials, caste etc. mentioned in the application.
  2. In case employed in a government/semi-government or autonomous organization, No Objection Certificate from your present employer must be produced at the time of interview.

The selection will be based on written examination (not for Research Associate) and followed by an interview.  No travelling or any other allowances will be paid for attending the interview.

What and Why ‘Indus MAGIC’?

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has proposed a research program entitled Indus MAGIC (Innovate, develop and up-scale MAGIC [modular, agile, intensified and continuous] processes and plants. This research program is formulated based on critical analysis and understanding of the needs of Indian specialty and fine chemical industry. Specialty/ fine chemical industry forms the backbone of industrial and agricultural development of India. Over the years, the industry has evolved from a basic chemical producer to knowledge intensive industry. The industry is exhibited for healthy growth in the years to come as it caters to several key applications required for maintaining and enhancing quality of life and is going to be increasingly important for developing economy like India. These new opportunities, the sheer magnitude of projected expansion and increasing demands on sustainability require tremendous research and technology inputs to support and to realize this expected growth. The Indus MAGIC research program is planned as a first step to meet these needs and to facilitate transformation of Indian specialty chemical industry.

The Indus MAGIC project targets development of new ways of designing process equipment and their integration with process chemistry to realize atom efficient (creating less waste products per kg of desired product), environmentally benign and globally competitive processes. Under this program, catalysis, reaction engineering and new concepts in process equipment intensification will be used synergistically to provide effective and economic solutions which will catch up & overtake global benchmarks in quality, cost, environmental impact (reduce carbon and water footprints) and safety. The components of modular, agile, intensified and continuous (MAGIC) chemical plant facility will be established during the course of this project. Attempt will be made to use wireless technologies to develop new ways of designing reconfigurable plants. An industry consortium on process intensification (Indus CPI) will be established to facilitate translation of the benefits of research and developments being made under the Indus MAGIC program to practice. A unique Indus Scholar program is planned which involves large number of chemical engineering and/or process chemistry students for sensitizing them to MAGIC concepts and to harness their capacity for carrying out techno-economic analysis of MAGIC processes.
