ETH Zurich and the Soil Chemistry Group under the supervision of Prof. Ruben Kretzschmar are inviting applications for 4 PhD positions in Environmental Geochemistry.
About the project:
- The research will be conducted within the ERC project “IRMIDYN: Iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments: Moving the frontier toward in-situ studies”.
- Selected candidates will contribute to the development of novel approaches for investigating iron mineral transformations in redox-dynamic soil/sediment environments and their influence on trace element cycling.
- The selected fellow will conduct laboratory and field studies on selected iron mineral transformation processes and their influence on trace elements, using state-of-the-art experimental and analytical techniques including stable isotope tracers, synchrotron spectroscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and others.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be highly motivated for scientific research in environmental geochemistry and mineralogy and the fate of inorganic contaminants.
- Applicants must hold an MSc degree (or equivalent) in environmental sciences, soil sciences, geoecology, geology, mineralogy, crystallography, chemistry, or a related natural science discipline.
- Applicant must possess good knowledge of English (spoken and written) as well as excellent communication and team skills.
Starting date: November 1, 2018
Applications:
- Apply online including the following documents:
- Cover letter describing the motivation and interests
- CV
- Copy of bachelor and master transcripts
- Addresses of 2-3 potential referees
- Summary of the applicant’s master thesis (if already completed)
