Multivariate Algorithmics / Parameterized
The Department of Informatics has a vacant position for a PhD student for 4 years. The position is related to the FPT II Project, supervised by Prof Michael Fellows, and is funded by the Bergen Research Foundation and the University of Bergen.
The Informatics Department has 6 research groups:
- Algorithms
- Bioinformatics
- Optimization
- Programming Theory
- Reliable Communication
- Visualization
About the Project:
- to explore and develop parameterized and multivariate algorithm design, implementation and experimentation and computational complexity analysis
- to explore new paradigms of employment for the parameterized/multivariate approach to complexity analysis and algorithm design
The topic for the PhD can be chosen within this broad range to suit the strengths and interests of the PhD candidate.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Mathematics/Computer Science or a related field of study.
- Final year (Master’s degree) candidates may also apply for the position. Induction in the project will then be postponed until the master’s degree is obtained.
- Candidate must be able to work in a team as well as independently and have strong commitment and enthusiasm for research.
- Fluency in written and oral English is must.
About the research training:
As a PhD student, you must take part in a sanctioned educational program for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. A final plan for the execution of the research training must be agreed by the faculty within three months after you have started in the position.
The application must include:
