The Department of Physics & Earth Sciences at Jacobs University invites applications for two PhD positions in Computational Biophysics.
About the positions:
- One position is focused on multi-scale modeling of excitation energy transfer in light-harvesting complexes. The respective research will involve density functional theory, molecular dynamics as well as quantum dynamical simulations. This project is in close collaboration with the group of Prof. Marcus Elstner at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
- The second position is focused on the modeling of membrane proteins and especially on transport across bacterial membranes using molecular dynamics simulations. This project is in close collaboration with experimental groups in Bremen and the UK.
- The positions are available immediately
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold a master degree in theoretical physics, theoretical biophysics or theoretical chemistry (potentially with an experience in high-performance computer simulations of biological systems).
- Solid knowledge in the theory of molecular systems and skills in molecular dynamics simulations are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in scripting and programming, in particular analysis tools, would be beneficial.
- A good command of English is essential.
Applications:
- Following documents are to be submitted by e-mail to Prof. Ulrich Kleinekathöfer at u.kleinekathoefer@jacobs-university.de:
- CV
- Brief statement of research interests
- Names of two referees
