The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is inviting applications for 3 PhD and postdoctoral positions. The positions are available at the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology.
About the positions:
- The candidates will work on a project entitled “Lightweight Cryptography for Future Smart Networks” funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
- The project includes collaboration with Eurecom Graduate school and Research Centre in digital sciences, Sophia Antipolis.
- This project will address the challenge of securing the next generation of communications infrastructure against digital vulnerabilities.
- Duration: 3 years for PhD (without teaching assistance), or for a term of 4 years including 25% teaching assistance; 3 years for Postdoctoral positions.
Qualification:
For PhD positions:
- The qualification requirement is completion of a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale.
For Postdoctoral positions:
- Candidate must hold a Norwegian doctoral degree in cryptology or network security, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.
- Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must provide evidence of good English language skills, written and spoken. The following tests can be used as such documentation: TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). Minimum scores are: TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test); IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted); CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

- Applicants from universities outside Norway must send a diploma supplement or similar, describing in detail the study and grading system and the rights for further studies associated with the obtained degree
- Research statement (max. 2 pages) including: How the applicant sees his/her background suitable for the project; The applicant’s view of research challenges within the area of the project; How the competence of the applicant can contribute to solving these challenges
- Names and contact information of at least 2 reference persons
- A copy of the master thesis (for PhD applicants) or PhD thesis (for postdoctoral applicants). For those who are near to completion, an extended abstract (1 page) combined with a statement of how and when the applicant plans to complete the thesis is sufficient.
