Five postdoctoral positions are available immediately in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, Chemical Biology, and Biomarkers Discovery and Proteomics in the Laboratory of Molecular and Chemical Biology of Neurodegeneration (more details http://lashuel-lab.epfl.ch/) at EPFL (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne), Switzerland (www.epfl.ch).
The projects aimed are elucidating the molecular determinants and cellular pathways that trigger and regulate protein mis-folding, aggregation, and propagation in cellular and animal models of neurodegenerative diseases.
Cellular and Animal Modeling of Neurodegenerative Diseases
The desired candidate must have a doctoral degree and strong track record of accomplishment in one of the following fields: cellular neurobiology molecular and/or molecular neurobiology and/or the development and characterization of cellular and animal models of neurological disorders.
Applicants with experience in working with models of Parkinson’s disease, viral vectors, DNA repair pathways, protein homeostasis and degradation pathways are particularly encouraged to apply.
Organic Synthesis and Chemical Biology
The candidate must have a doctoral degree in bioorganic/ organic chemistry with a strong publication record and demonstrated experience in at least 2 of the following areas;
- organic synthesis;
- peptide and chemical synthesis and semisynthesis of proteins;
- Synthesis of unnatural amino acids novel probes to study protein structure and function.
Experience in protein biophysics and protein biochemistry is additional, but not a requirement.
Mass Spectrometry and Biomarkers Discovery: The candidates must have a doctoral degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with a strong publication record and demonstrated experience in
1) the development of immunoassays for protein quantifications and/or
2) targeted and quantitative mass spectrometry using MS/ LC-MS and triple quadrupole MS systems, immunoprecipitation (IP), as well as conventional biochemical techniques for the analysis of human samples including plasma and CSF.
Experience in protein biochemistry is a additional.
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic research scientists with a doctoral.degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Chemical Biology. Applicants with experience and demonstrated track record in chemical synthesis and semi synthesis of proteins and working at the interface of biology and chemistry are encouraged to apply. Very good communication and writing skills are essential, and the ability to be a team player and interact with several groups is a necessity.
The applicant will benefit from working with a very dynamic and multidisciplinary group in a highly collaborative and stimulating environment and access to state of the art laboratories and core-facilities and a competitive salary
