Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History and the Department of Archaeology offers PhD and post doctorate opportunities in a variety of areas. The Department of Archaeology undertakes both field and laboratory research, and offers the opportunity to conduct cutting edge research in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. We offer research positions for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers on a variety of topics.

- Island Southeast Asian archaeology
- Central Asian archaeobotany
- African archaeobotany
- Ceramic residue analysis
- ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry)
- Late Pleistocene archaeology
- Stable isotope analysis
- Other Topics; applicants are welcome to suggest your own topic of interest, provided this fits with the Department’s core interests and themes.
Qualification:
For PhD positions:
- Applicant must have or expect to receive Master’s degree or qualification equivalent to the German diploma (essential)
- Applicant must provide an excellent research proposal
For postdoctoral position:
- Applicant must have or expect to receive PhD degree
- Applicant must possess a proven record of publication in international, peer-reviewed journals
- Applicant must possess relevant research experience
- Applicant must provide an excellent research proposal
