The Faculty of Science, Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics at University of Amsterdam seeks two tenure tracks in the field of Earth System Science, one focusing on Environmental Chemistry and a second on Soil Carbon Cycling.
Research areas:
- fate and effects of organic contaminants of emerging concern in the environment
- the mitigation of environmental pollution
- environmental policy and circular economy
- regional and larger-scale systems analysis of human impacts on the environment
Role and responsibilities:
- The selected candidate is expected to publish in high-profile journals and attract your own external funding.
- The selected candidate will spend roughly equal amounts of your time on research and teaching, and you will contribute to the teaching programmes within the Faculty of Science, the BSc Future Planet Studies (eg. Natural Disasters & Future Threats and/or Water Management), and the BSc and MSc degree programs in Earth Sciences (Biogeochemical Cycles and/or Environmental Measuring Techniques).
- In the medium term (5-years’ time) selected candidate is expected to make a significant contribution to the organization of education within the institute, such as becoming the director of a BSc or MSc degree program.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold PhD in environmental chemistry, risk assessment, environmental science, ecotoxicology, hydrology or closely related field;
- Applicant must have a track record of publishing in international scientific journals and have experience of applying for external research grants;
- Applicant must be familiar with laboratory and/or field research and have worked with modelling approaches;
- Applicant must have ability to supervise PhD and MSc researchers and hold a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or are willing to obtain this in order to contribute to our educational programs;
- Applicant must possess well-developed organisational and communication skills.
