The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute, Harvard University (The Mittal Institute) is inviting applications for Building Bharat-Boston Biosciences Programme (B4).

This program is a collaboration between IBAB (Bengaluru, India) and The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute (Harvard University, Cambridge, MA).

Funding agency: Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India.

Starting Date: January 20th 2019
Duration: 18 months

The selected candidates would be expected to:

  1. Reside in the Cambridge area
  2. Actively participate in the events and intellectual life of the Institute
  3. Contribute by teaching, mentoring and advising students

Level of Study: Research

Subject Area: Fields related to the biosciences at Harvard University and other institutions in the Boston area.

Scholarship Award: The scholarship would provide

  1. INR 195,000/month for 18 months
  2. Health insurance
  3. Round-trip economy travel expenses to and from Boston
Number of Scholarships: 8

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The candidate must have completed their PhD within the last 5 years from an institution in India in a bioscience-related field.
  2. Exceptional senior doctoral students may be considered.
  3. Applicants must be Indian citizens who are residing in India as on January 20th
  4. Applicants whose first language is not English would be required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.

How to Apply: These instructions apply to non-Harvard candidates ONLY.

  1. The applicant must request for an XID, it is mandatory in order to apply.
  2. The instructions sent on the email sent by the XID system must be followed.
  3. If it is not seen in the inbox the spam folder must be checked.
  4. After activating the XID one should wait for 24 hours.
  5. The individual should then Log in with the XID. The “HarvardKey” option should not be used. The applicant then is able to begin the B4 application process.

  1. The academic degrees (including disciplines and dates the degrees were received),
  2. Publications, if any
  3. Research presentations
  4. Previous grants and/or fellowships and
  5. Any additional experience that shows scientific background and productivity
  • Statement of Interest, describing how the scholarship would help in advancing one’s career.
  • The statement must not be more than 1 page
  • Recent academic transcript(s)
  • 2 letters of recommendation.
