Chromatin 3D reconstruction project is an NIH supported project as part of the 4D Nucleome, a trans-NIH initiative. They are seeking a passionate, engrossed computational postdoctoral fellow with strong programming skills to work on an stimulating new project in Chromatin 3D reconstruction.

Location of the project will be EMBL-EBI Hinxton near Cambridge, UK. Duration of project is Six months. One year Stipend will be given.

About the Program:

The position is available in the research group of Ewan Birney, which has an interdisciplinary team of scientists. The fellow will be working closely with groups in EMBL Heidelberg (Jonas Rivas and Jan Ellenberg) and there will be usual travel to Heidelberg.

EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and it is globally leading in bioinformatics providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. EMBL-EBI provides generously available data from life science experiments; carryout basic research in computational biology and provides a widespread user training program which supports researchers in academic and industry. The group is closely associated with both the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Candidate should have computational, Physics or Electrical Engineering, biological background, but should have strong computational skills.
  • Comprehensive experience of algorithm development in C/ C++/Java. The ability to use scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
  • Experience of suffix trees, suffix arrays or other string manipulation algorithms is advantageous.
  • For non-biological candidates, a strong interest in biology and a keenness to engage with biological problems (but no earlier biological experience is required).
