Data Science: 2 PhD Research Fellowships 2367 views

The University of Oslo (UiO) is building up a research community in Data Science. There are 3 PhD positions available at the Department of Informatics.  The Doctoral students will be part of this new initiative, producing top research at the crossroad between statistics, machine learning, and logic & computer science, with a specific focus on innovative uses of big data. Data science is an interdisciplinary field, exposure to methods and practice of both computer science and statistics is highly desirable

Duration: Every PhD student is employed at UiO for 4 years, with 25 % of the time dedicated to innovation related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate should hold or be about to complete a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science or a related quantitative subject.
  • Applicant must prove competence in at least one modern programming language such as C++, python, matlab or R.
  • Applicant must have strong background in at least Databases, automated reasoning, model checking.
  • Applicants are expected to be in the upper segment with respect to academic credentials.
  • Applicant must be proficient in English language (written and spoken). Norwegian proficiency is not required, as all PhD training at UiO can be taken in English.
  • Applicants must have completed their Master’s degree until 30th of June, 2016.

Salary:

  • Position code 1017
  • Allowance: NOK 432 700 – 489 300/year, (pay grade 50 – 57) depending on qualifications and seniority.
