Data Science and Informatics: 2 PhD positions 1031 views

The Department of Informatics, 2 PhD positions are available in Data Science. UiO is building up a research community in Data Science. Brilliant PhD students are encouraged to be part of the new initiative, producing top research at the crossroad between statistics, machine learning, logic and computer science, with a specific focus on innovative uses of big data.

The two research projects are:

  • Probabilistic Methods for Entity Resolution
  • Ontology-based data exploration

Qualifications

  • Applicants should hold or be about to obtain a master’s degree in statistics/ mathematics/ computer science or a related quantitative subject.
  • Applicant must be able to establish competence in at least one modern programming language such as C++, python, matlab or R.
  • Applicant must have strong background in at least one of the following areas: Databases, automated reasoning, model checking.
  • Exposure to methods and practice of both computer science and statistics is highly desirable.
  • Applicant must have appetite for learning new skills and techniques.
  • Scholars must be able to work effectively as part of a team, eager to both gain and share insight while being focused on publishing papers in leading international journals.
  • Candidates are expected to be in the upper segment with respect to academic credentials.
  • Proficiency in (written and spoken) English must be excellent.

Salary:

  • Position code 1017
  • NOK 432 700–489 300/year; pay grade 50–57 depending on qualifications and experience.
