DBU offers highly qualified young researchers with clear reference to the current environmental and conservation issues and contribute with their work to solve these problems, are supported by PhD grants.

Number of fellowships: 60 PhD scholarships per year

Subject areas: All disciplines

Location and Nationality: PhD to be undertaken at a German University. Applications are invited from foreign students

Duration: Length of up to 36 months

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must not have yet begun the doctoral thesis.
  • International applicants must demonstrate good German language skills, so that integration into the DBU scholarship network is possible.
  • The application documents must be written in German.
  • Applicant must hold an above-average university degree in the relevant subject.
  • All environmental research topics, natural and engineering sciences and social sciences, humanities, economics and law are welcome. Interdisciplinary topics that support sustainable development are particularly desirable.
