Development of a novel Biosensor- Title of the Project
The Bioanalytics Group at the Department Biosystems Science and Engineering at ETH Zurich develops new microchip platforms for the analysis of membranes and cells. To make stronger our interdisciplinary team, currently a PhD position is offered.
This group is seeking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest to work at the interface of biology and technology. Currently, cell based assays are extensively used in bio-analytical, pharmaceutical and diagnostic applications. Effect-based analysis using living cells facilitates sensitive detection and efficacy measurements of compounds in more complex sample. Nonetheless, the use of living cells has many drawbacks that we could recently overcome by use of so called cell-derived vesicles. This doctoral project aims at the further development of this novel type of sensor for diagnostic applications and high throughput screening. The work will include fundamental studies on membrane properties as well as the execution of the sensors in a controllable platform.
Qualifications:
- Candidate should have a master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related fields.
- Knowledge in cell biology (cell cultivation/cell transfection) is required.
- Some experience in optical and fluorescence microscopy or microfluidic technology will be added value.
- Successful candidate will be given an intellectually challenging position in the inspiring atmosphere of an interdisciplinary team, and the prospect to obtain a PhD degree from ETH Zurich.
- Higher training in different related fields and participation at international conferences is highly encouraged.
Applications must contain a motivation letter describing your background, Curriculum Vitae, two reference letters and scanned copies of certificates and should be submitted online.
