Dissertation Fellowships are offered by the Ford Foundation.

Number of fellowships: This year the program will award approximately 36 dissertation fellowships.

Duration: These fellowships provide 01 year of support for individuals working to complete a dissertation leading to a Doctorate or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree.

Fellowships Stipend & Benefits:

  • Stipend: $25,000 for One year
  • Funds to attend at least one Conference of Ford Fellows
  • Access to Ford Fellow Regional Liaisons, a network of former Ford Fellows who have volunteered to provide guidance and support to current fellows

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be citizens, nationals, and permanent residents (holders of a Permanent Resident Card) of the US, and individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation
  2. Applicant must demonstrate superior academic accomplishment in the form of grade point average, class rank, honors, or other designations
  3. Applicant must be devoted to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level
  4. Doctorate or Doctor of Science degree applicants studying in an eligible research-based discipline in a dissertation-required program at a United States not for profit institution of higher education and will complete the dissertation during the 2017- 2018 academic year, but no later than fall 2018
  5. Individuals who have not earned a PhD degree at any time, in any field.
