Doctoral Researcher: Social Science Sustainability Research 1107 views

The Center for Religion, Economics and Politics at the University of Basel is inviting application for a doctoral student for the research project “Ecovillages as Incubators for Sustainability Transitions” from June 1, 2021. The project explores the role of ecovillages in local sustainable change in different regional contexts. In particular, it investigates the conditions under which the communities succeed in diffusing their innovations into the local social environment. The project team headed by Prof. Dr. Jens Köhrsen will also include a postdoctoral student, another doctoral student and at least one research assistant.

Tasks:
  • Close cooperation with members of the project team
  • Collection of quantitative and qualitative data and their software-based evaluation (e.g. MAXQDA, SPSS)
  • Writing and revising empirical reports and research articles for leading journals in the field of sustainability
  • Organization, support and implementation of events (e.g. courses, workshops, panel discussions)
  • Writing a doctoral thesis as part of the research project (monograph or cumulative dissertation) and participating in qualification offers for the doctorate

Requirements:

  • Applicant must hold relevant master’s degree (or other equivalent qualification) in Sustainability Science, Sociology, Human Geography or a similar subject
  • Knowledge in the field of social science sustainability research and interest in researching ecovillages
  • First experience in qualitative social research and interest in quantitative social research
  • Business fluent command of written and spoken English (level C1) and, if possible, Spanish
