European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) invites applications for the Young Investigator Programme (YIP). The programme identifies and supports some of the best young researchers in the life sciences. EMBO Young Investigators are group leaders in the early stages of setting up an independent laboratory in EMBC Member or Associate Member States.

EMBO YIP value:
  • Financial award: 15,000 euros in their second year
  • May also apply for additional small grants of up to 10,000 euros per year.
Eligibility:
  • Applicant must have been an independent group leader for at least one year at the pre-application deadline (1 April) and less than four years on 1 January in the year of application.
  • Applicants must hold an excellent track record.
  • Applicant must do research in the life sciences in an EMBC Member State or an EMBC Associate Member State (currently India and Singapore). Special provisions are made for scientists based at Taiwanese institutes.
  • Applicants are expected to have received sufficient funding to run their laboratory.
  • Applicants must have published at least one last author research paper in an international peer reviewed journal from independent work carried out in their own laboratory.
  • Applicants must not exceed 40 years of age as on 1 January in the year of application (unless exceptional circumstances have significantly delayed career progression).
  • Applicants must be able to attend an interview in Heidelberg, Germany, on 9 or 10 October 2016.
