European Doctoral School of Demography: Doctoral Fellowships 1357 views

The European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) is an eleven-month program that is offered every year aiming to provide students in the first year of their PhD studies with an appropriate high-level education in demography. Students will acquire a solid knowledge base on causes and consequences of demographic change, population data, statistical and mathematical demography, as well as modeling, simulation and forecasting.

About the programme:
  • In the 2018-9 school year, the School will be held at two different locations.
  • The preparatory courses (from early September to mid-October 2018) will be offered at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany.
  • The core courses (from mid-October 2018 until end of July 2019) will be held at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark.
Requirements:
  • Applicant must hold an above average Master’s degree in Demography, Mathematics, Statistics, Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Geography, Biology, Computer Science, History or another relevant field.
  • It is expected that prospective students will possess a curious mind and a deep interest in demography and population development either of humans or of species across the tree of life.
  • Non-EU citizens must be enrolled as PhD students at a University.
  • The students (Non-EU citizens) must be able to document this enrollment with official documents, from the day they apply for a Danish work and residence permit (3 months prior to the EDSD program in Odense) to the end of the EDSD program.
  • European citizens must have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for the duration of the program.

  • CV including in detail educational and work history, language abilities, with any scholarly publications.
  • A letter of recommendation (recent).
  • Statement of purpose (up to 5 pages) giving an overview of academic background, professional goals, quantitative skills (programming, mathematics, statistics), and research topics of interest to you.
  • Official transcripts and degree certificates of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English or English translation.
  • TOEFL (internet-based: 100, computer-based: 250, paper-based 600) or CAE test scores or a degree taught in English or a declaration of why you are proficient in English.
  • Non-EU citizens must attach documentation of a PhD enrollment at a university.
