Fellowships in Science and Engineering, NPSC: Graduate Fellowships in Science and Engineering are offered by the National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC). NPSC is an association between government agencies and labs, industry, and higher education. NPSC’s aim is to increase the number of American citizens with graduate degrees in the physical sciences and related engineering fields, stressing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool.
Duration of Fellowship:
- Initially for 2 or 3 years or for a full 6 years, depending on the employer-sponsor.
- If the initial support is for the shorter period, it may be extended up to 6 years at the decision of the employer.
Financial Aid:
- Amount given is $26,000 annually, of which $20,000 is the fellow’s expense allowance and $6,000 is NPSC’s fee to support its operations.
- The funds are subjected to change at the discretion of the NPSC Board of Directors.

Eligibility:
- Applicant must be qualified U.S. national who has the zeal to pursue graduate work at an NPSC member institution.
- Applicants at any stage of their graduate program may apply, as long as they will be available to accept two summers of paid internship.
- Applicants already having a doctoral degree are ineligible.
- Employers may nominate NPSC fellows directly, averting the selection process. These fellows may enroll for either a Master’s or a PhD degree.
Selection
- Undergraduate and graduate course work and grades
- Research experience at a university or in industry
- Letters of recommendation from professors and employers.
- GRE General Tests are required; the Subject test is suggested and may be required by the university.
