Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS): Doctoral Programme 909 views

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is a three-year, structured PhD programme within the interdisciplinary research environment of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: The Dynamics of Transculturality”. The GPTS is co-hosted at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS).

Starting date: October 2018
Number of scholarships: 6 doctoral scholarships for 3 years

Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold an M.A. or equivalent in a discipline of the Humanities or Social Sciences with an above-average grade (at least 1.7, B+, 2+, “magna cum laude”, or equivalent).
  • Applicants who plan to graduate in the current academic year must provide a university transcript that clearly indicates the progress to degree.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of advanced language skills in English through a certificate confirming at least level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (score of 100 in the Internet based TOEFL or a score of 7.0 in the IELTS).

Applications:

Application to be submitted via the online application system. The application process has three parts (in English).

  1. Register yourself and log into the Online Application System of the GPTS. Following documents are required:
  • university degree certificates and transcripts of records
  • 2 references with contact details who will be asked to provide letters of recommendation
  • a proposal of their doctoral project with a working plan
  • a letter of motivation
  • proof of language skills (see above for English, plus – if applicable – other languages relevant for the proposed project)
  • further information about their education, work experience and other skills
  • A possible supervisor from the Cluster/HCTS.
  • The proposed doctoral project must have a clear connection to the general research framework of the Cluster/HCTS.
  1. The selection committee shortlists the most promising applicants and invites them to present their projects at a Job Market in Heidelberg.
  2. Subsequent to the interviews, the scholarship holders will be selected.
