ICWA fellowship program by The Institute of Current World Affairs

Overview 

ICWA wants to cultivate deep expertise in foreign countries & cultures. They achieve that by supporting fellows for two-year immersive programs of self-designed, independent study abroad.

This is a writing fellowship. Selected Fellows are required to produce monthly dispatches made available on ICWA website & email to institute supporters & any other interested parties, including family, friends & professional associates of the fellows. Fellows work closely with the executive director, who serves as writing coach, editor & mentor.

Qualifications / Eligibility

Looking for promise, curiosity, & enthusiasm in their candidates, & consider whether a candidate is ready for the rapid personal growth the fellowship makes possible. Extensive professional experience in the proposed area is not always necessary. Strong candidates generally propose compelling fellowship topics.

  1. Candidates must be under the age of 36 years at the time of the due date for the initial letter of interest.
  2. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement, but candidates must show strong & credible ties to U.S. society.
  3. Applicants must have excellent written & spoken English-language skills & must have completed the current phase of their formal education.
  4. Necessary language skills to allow to them to carry out their proposed projects.
