IMT PhD Position: NMR metabolite screening
IMT PhD Position in High throughput parallel NMR metabolite screening at the Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT)
Overview
This project targets high throughput parallel metabolite NMR screening. Thus, the design and implementation of an array of miniaturized (micro fabrication) RF detectors to detect the NMR signals simultaneously from several samples. Throughout the design of the detector’s array typical challenges such as sensitivity, field uniformity, electrical coupling, passive shimming, and scalability have to be properly addressed.
The second part of this project will be the design and implementation of a micro fluidic system to load/unload the RF detectors with the samples of interest. The fluidic system has to be integrated with the electrical system without influencing its NMR performance quality.
Required qualifications
- Highly motivated and excellent candidates
- Sc. degree in Physics, Engineering Physics or Electrical Engineering are welcome.
- The ideal candidate will already have a background in radiofrequency hardware, and MEMS micro-fabrication using cleanroom processes.
- Previous experience in NMR and/or numerical simulation (RF, microfluidics) would be of advantage, as would direct experience with commercial simulation tools such as COMSOL and/or ADS.
