Indigenous Graduate Scholarships: University of Guelph, Canada

Indigenous Graduate Scholarships were established to encourage Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) students to pursue graduate studies in any discipline.

Description

Students entering or registered in any program who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) with at least a first-class (A-) average in the most recently completed two years of academic study. In-course students beyond semester level 3 as of the scholarship application deadline are ineligible to apply.

Selection will be based on academic excellence, critical thinking, application of knowledge and/or research potential. Students must maintain satisfactory progress for the duration of the scholarship.

Fellowship Value & Duration

Number of Fellowships: Up to 5 awards annually,

Value: $30,000 (payable over 6 semesters) for Master’s and $120,000 (payable over 12 semesters) for Doctoral.

Application Procedure

Students apply by the deadline indicated above by submitting the following to the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at grschol@uoguelph.ca :

  1. A one page cover letter that includes the applicant’s full name, student ID # (if applicable), email address (if not a U of Guelph student yet),  proposed/current graduate program,  proposed/current department, brief description of the proposed/current research or statement of interest, and a declaration of Aboriginal identity or affiliation.
  2. An updated Resume/CV
  3. Two (2) letters of support from academic and/or community-based referees

Submitting Application

Application packages may be submitted in hard copy format to the front counter in the Office of Graduate Studies (UC Level 3) or in electronic format by scanning the documents into a single pdf and emailing them to grschol@uoguelph.ca with “Aboriginal Graduate Scholarship Application” indicated in the subject line

  1. Letters of Support may be given to the applicant to scan and include in their scholarship application package or sent directly by the letter writer to the Graduate Awards Officers at grschol@uoguelph.ca  as a pdf
  2. Eligible applications will be reviewed and the recipients will be selected by the Office of Graduate Studies Awards Committee
  3. All applicants will be notified by email whether or not they were successful
