The School of Politics and International Relations at University of Kent announces an international Global Challenges Doctoral Scholarship to begin in the academic year 2018/19 under the supervision of Professor Elena Korosteleva.

Scholarship value:
  • Annual stipend at UKRI rates (£14,777)
  • Payment of tuition fees
  • School funding to cover OS fee difference for three years
  • Minimum research training support grant of £3500

About the scholarship:

  • The GCRF PhD Scholarship is offered as part of the GCRF COMPASS project, which in partnership with the top-level HEIs in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, seeks to explore a novel ‘adaptive governance approach’ to make global and domestic governance more effective and sustainable.
  • The project develops the concepts of resilience as self-governance, with the emphasis on the ‘peoplehood’, identity and a ‘sense of good life’ for local communities; regime legitimacy and capacity-building; as well as domestic and international order formation within the framework of a Multi-Order World.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must have a good knowledge of the eastern region (including Central Asia), and IR scholarship, to be able to develop a novel perspective on and an understanding of changing international relations in the region, and the increasing role of ‘the local’ in shaping global order.
