JDP (Joint Doctoral Program): Doctoral degree in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance (IRSU) is granted jointly by UC San Diego and San Diego State University. The program is intended to prepare the next generation of leaders in substance use research with the knowledge and skills to advance evidence-based and applied substance use interventions, programs and policies. The program has a decidedly global health flavor. The program builds on mutual and complementary strengths of faculty in both institutions and will be the most productive PhD programs in the nation associated with a School of Social Work.
Admission Requirements:
- Applicants must hold a master’s degree from an accredited to US or equivalent college or university from a related social/behavioral science or professional program, social work, public health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics.
- Applicants must have minimum grade point averages of 3.2 (undergraduate) and 3.5 (graduate)
- Applicants must have evidence of foundational research experience like peer-reviewed publication record and prior coursework in graduate-level statistics and research methodology.
- Applicant must have GRE scores taken within the last 5 years and be at the 55th percentile or above.
- International applicants will be required to have proficiency in English (spoken and written) though the TOEFL exam.
- TOEFL scores must be submitted to SDSU, Institution Code 4682.
Funding:
- Every year (Fall semester) – 4 students will be admitted with funding
- Tuition and a $20,000/year teaching or research stipend – for 4 years.
