International PhD Program in Life Sciences at the University of Geneva is open now and invites applications from qualified and eligible candidates. The duration of the PhD thesis is four years, but funding is tenable for up to 5 years.

About the Program:

A dedicated program including formal course work in the first year (3 hours/week, 30 weeks) covers advanced topics including 2 weeks on the ethical conduct of science. All course work is taught in English. In the First year of the research, the students initiate research in the lab that is chosen by them and present a written thesis project to be defended orally in front of their thesis advisory committee

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in the Sciences or its equivalent. An equivalent generally includes 9 semesters of University level training with a written research project.
  • Good knowledge of English (orally and writing)
  • Successful candidates must have a strong knowledge in molecular life sciences (Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology/Genetics, Cell Biology), some remarkably motivated students from other scientific branches (e.g. Physics, Chemistry) with a zeal for life sciences are encouraged to apply.

  • Letters of recommendation (2) from instructors or teachers who have followed your work
  • Application form (with a list of preferred laboratories for thesis work)
  • Aspiring students living in Europe will be compensated for their trip to Geneva by train.
  • Invitations for interviews are sent within a few weeks after the deadlines and a final decision shall be made approximately 4 months before the beginning of the program.
