Baker Hughes Technology Group is seeking a Materials Scientist with skills in Metallurgy and Ceramic materials processing, experimental mechanics of such materials, and advanced modelling of mechanical and thermochemical behaviour of structural materials for improving Drill Bit material performance.
Baker Hughes Incorporated has an opening for a Materials Scientist supporting Drill Bits at our facility in The Woodlands, TX.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Material Scientist is expected to carry-out laboratory based design-of-experiments of modeled/designed material systems for the desired mechanical and thermochemical responses
The Material Scientist will focus on microstructure development of hard/refractory and superabrasive materials, both monolithic and composite structures.
Lead and support projects working closely with product development, lab services, engineering, vendors, and field operations to identify and study problems, advance fundamental knowledge, and develop new drill bit or drilling materials.
Apply scientific method for identifying materials research focus areas, and investigating complex material systems and the challenges associated processing, physical, and mechanical behavior.
Develop and implement advanced physics based modeling routines for describing and predicting mechanical and thermochemical material behavior.
Assist in project planning and review
Identify and follow leads to create a case to move forward with the research for improvement of the products
Coordinate with testing services groups, vendors, and academic institutions to design/conduct experiments, using industry leading facilities, for developing structure property relationships of microstructures.
Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity
