A PhD position is available in molecular genetics (Psychiatry) at the NORMENT – K.G. Jebsen Research Centre for Psychosis Research, University of Oslo. The Centre has a research programme involving all psychiatric hospital departments in Oslo and several research groups at the UiO. The aim of the programme is to study how biological or genetic, psychological and environmental factors contribute to severe mental disorders.
Task and Responsibilities:
- Successful candidate will work in a project to advance more knowledge about: mechanisms of severe mental disorders; identifying molecular phenotypes; severe mental illness; TOP (Thematically Organized Psychosis) sample with clinical, neurocognitive assessments and genome-wide genotypes and advanced brain imaging (MRI) scans.
- The related research area is translational genetics, using data from brain imaging and whole genome studies, as well as international data bases.
- Project work will also involve RNA Sequencing and bioinformatics modelling, focusing on bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must have knowledge in molecular genetics, psychiatry, bioinformatics, neuroscience or equivalent and related degree.
- Applicants with experience in molecular genetics laboratory techniques will be preferred,
- Applicant must have some familiarity with analytical tools (like MatLab, R or Python).
- The ideal candidate has strong analytical and problem solving skills and attention to details.
Duration: The position is funded for 3 years.
