within the team of Nanoparticles Self-Assembly of the chemistry department at the University of Fribourg, Prof. Marco Lattuada is looking for a few highly motivated PhD candidates for four (04) years, starting as soon as possible.

Research Overview:

  1. The candidates will work on a cutting-edge research project targeting the preparation of novel anisotropic particles and investigate their self-assembly.
  2. Work will consist in the synthesis of the particles, their characterization, and in investigating their self-assembly behavior, with focus on either the preparation of complex micromachines, or of sophisticated colloidal crystals with unique optical properties.
  3. The use of several characterization methods (including optical and electron microscopy and scattering methods) will be an essential part of the work.

Requirements for the Positions:

1.    Ideal candidate has preferably a master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or material science.

2.    Excellent laboratory working skills are required,

3.    Previous experience in the synthesis and/or characterization of inorganic

and/or polymeric nanoparticles would be highly appreciated,

4.    Competence with scattering techniques and electron microscopy.

5.    High enthusiasm, team work spirit, creativity, and a goal-oriented approach are required, as well as excellent communication skills, with fluency in English both written and spoken.

6.    The candidate will work in highly interdisciplinary and international group, with excellent research facilities and attractive employment conditions.
