Marie Curie-PhD Position in Microfluidic methods for bead-based assays on-chip at the Uppsala University.

The Marie Curie-PhD-position is at the Division of Microsystems Technology, Department of Engineering Sciences, Ångström Laboratory.

Overview

The Marie Curie-PhD-student will develop a microfluidic manipulation method to introduce, incubate, elute and analyse microbeads for cytokine detection in low volumes. The main working tasks of the advertised subproject are to:

  1. develop a bead manipulation unit based on acoustic trapping;
  2. integrate the bead manipulations method with organ models developed by other project partners;
  3. perform and characterise immunoassays on-chip using the developed platform.

Involved organizations: Secondments are planned as follows:

  1. Miltenyi Biotec GmbH, Germany for 2 months;
  2. Universitaet Bern, Switzerland for 3 months;
  3. Universite du Luxembourg, Luxembourg for 2 months;
  4. Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.V., Germany for 2 months.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  1. Graduation in the field of engineering sciences, material science, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering or related fields – M.Sc. preferred;
  2. Basic knowledge of microfabrication, integrated acoustics, chip-to-world interfacing;
  3. Practical experience of PDMS moulding, LabView programming and fluorescence microscopy is a plus;
  4. Basic knowledge of data analysis and Microsoft Office;
  5. Well-structured and autonomous working style, good organizational and communication skills;
  6. Fluency in written and spoken English is a must.
  1. The eligibility criteria for this specific project are as follows:
  1. The applicant must, at the date of recruitment, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience).
  2. The applicant must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.

Duration: Marie Curie-PhD position is for 42-48 months
