National Cancer Institute (NCI) – Postdoctoral research grants: The mission is to provide training to the next generation of researchers / Scholars in the development of advanced techniques for cancer imaging and its vast application.

With funding from the NCI, the organization provides the Stanford Cancer Imaging Training (SCIT) Program to well-qualified selected applicants.

The current T32 training program is the evolution of the longstanding program, previously known as “Advanced Techniques for Cancer Imaging & Detection,” established and led by our former Chair Dr. Gary M. Glazer (1992).

SCIT is a2 year program training five (5) fellows (PhD / MD) per year over a 5 year funding cycle.

Bruce Daniel MD

The program features 24 mentors with independent cancer-focused funding, and 7 (5 internal / 2 external) distinguished program advisors.

Our strengthened required coursework component include:

  1. 2 courses in the clinical/cancer sciences,
  2. 2 in imaging science,
  3. 1 in biostatistics,
  4. 1 in medical ethics (“Responsible Conduct of Research”),

 Attendance at a minimum of six multidisciplinary tumor boards is nessasary.

In addition, trainees can select from a multitude of electives offered by various Stanford University Departments, e.g.,

  1. Radiology,
  2. Radiation Oncology,
  3. Bioengineering,
  4. Biomedical Informatics, and

Eligibility conditions:

  1. MD or PhD degree
  2. A US citizen, or a non-citizen national, or must have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence and possess an Alien Registration Card or other some other verification of legal admission as a permanent resident
