NUS- National University of Singapore offers Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship. It was established from donations received from the Lee Foundation and is the University’s most prominent scholarship award for graduate students who exhibit academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to service. The selection of candidates is done twice a year, (August and January). Up to 5 new Scholarships may be awarded each year to candidates of sufficient merit.

Eligibility:          

The Scholarship is open to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • graduate with an undergraduate degree with at least IInd Class Honours (Upper division) or Honours (Distinction) or equivalent;
  • applicant must have been offered admission to a doctoral research (PhD) program at NUS, but not yet matriculated
  • applicant must be eligible for MOE Subsidy

Award Amount

  1. monthly stipend of S$3,5002;
  2. Tuition and Miscellaneous Student Fees at the University;
  3. annual book allowance of S$500;
  4. one-off air travel allowance of S$3,000 (for International Students admitted from Semester 2, AY2015/2016);
  5. one-off laptop allowance of S$1,500.

Award Duration:

  • Scholarship is available for One year in the first instance; and from there on its subject to the awardee’s satisfactory progress,
  • It may be renewed each semester at the University’s discretion.
  • Maximum period of the Scholarship is Four years.

Application Procedure:       

  • Incoming PhD candidates must specify their interest in the Scholarship in their application for admission.
  • Interested candidates must also submit a personal essay to define an exceptional achievement that highlights their academic interests and intellectual capacity that would be of value to the NUS community, as well as a record of their co-curricular activities and/or participation in community service.
  • Short-listed candidates will be interviewed via teleconferencing.
