The Nijmegen School of Management at Radboud University is inviting application for a PhD candidate to work on political economy topics (Centre for Analytical Modelling).
About the project:
- The projects will be with supervisors from mathematics and economics, to characterise appropriate model assumptions, level of abstraction and techniques. This is important because approaches, techniques and results of the aforementioned projects will then be showcased at seminars, with the idea of attracting researchers from other disciplines such as healthcare, cognitive neuroscience, sensorimotor control research, linguistics or neuropsychology, where similar or different modelling techniques are applied.
Requirements:
- Applicant must hold Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field (e.g. Physics or Engineering), preferably a degree in another subject (e.g. Economics or one of the other Social Sciences).
- Expertise in some of the following field’s optimisation, game theory, stochastic analysis and dynamical systems.
- Applicant must have affinity with empirical and/or experimental research and the ability to communicate mathematical techniques to non-mathematicians and to translate real world phenomena into mathematical language.
- A willingness to organise international seminars, undertake minor teaching tasks – including the development of teaching modules – and to perform some minor administrative tasks.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Applications:
Apply online and application must include:
- A letter of motivation explaining interest in the projects and relevant competences (additional ideas for the projects or related research may also be included).
- CV (including academic publications, if applicable).
- Proof of qualifications and grades.
- Two academic references supporting your application.
- Proof of academic writing skills such as a chapter from your Master’s thesis or an academic paper (ideally, this would be related to some modelling or some other technical/mathematical aspect).
