PhD Student position in the field of Chromosome Biology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute 

The center is looking for a doctoral student to join the Rowland laboratory. Research in the lab is driven by fundamental questions that touch upon the essence of chromosome biology and its links to the cell cycle and gene regulation.

Work Overview: questions to discover

  1. How does cohesin lock together the sister chromatids in S phase?
  2. How does cohesin structure chromosomes in interphase?
  3. And how does condensin drive chromosome compaction in mitosis?
  4. We aim to address such questions using a combination of genetics, biochemistry and imaging, using both human cells & budding yeast as our model systems.

Requirements

  1. The department offers PhD studentship for an ambitious candidate with a passion for chromosome biology.
  2. A background in molecular biology is essential,
  3. Experience with microscopy, genetics, biochemistry and/or bioinformatics is appreciated.

Terms of employment

The selected candidate will join a dynamic international research team with collaborations with scientists with expertise in different disciplines. The candidate will have the opportunity to follow high-quality courses offered by the OOA oncology graduate school throughout the PhD duration.

Type of employment:

  1. The temporary employment will be for a period of at least four (0) years.
  2. The gross salary per month will be from € 2.567 to € 3.162 according to the standard PhD scales.
  3. T terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
