The Otto Schott Institute for Materials Research, Chair of Materials Science at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of Friedrich Schiller University has one open PhD position (m/f/d) for 30 hours/week.
Study area:
- Creation and understanding of protein nanofibers and protein nanofiber based scaffolds
Qualifications
- A recently obtained university degree (MSc or diploma) in materials science (preferred), or experimental polymer physics or physical/organic chemistry or biochemistry with excellent study results
- Research experience in one or more of the following fields: Materials science, Biomaterials, Proteins and/or biopolymers, Tissue regeneration
- Research experience in the field of materials fabrication (protein based materials, biomaterials, scaffolds, polymers, polymers, hydrogels) and materials characterization (AFM, DLS etc.)
- Excellent oral and written English and/or German language skills
- Communication and didactic skills
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Fabrication/synthesis of protein nanofibers
- Creation, characterization and understanding (structure-property relationships) of degradable protein nanofiber based scaffolds
- Development of new, groundbreaking materials concepts
- Participation in the preparation of applications for third-party funding and in project management
Duration: initially for 2 years (part time, 75%).
