Position as PhD research fellow in Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics, Climate Science and Geosciences is available at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo. Starting date no later than December 31, 2020.

  1. The fellowship period is 3 or 4 years, with 3 years devoted to research education. Depending on qualifications, the evaluation committee for the position will decide
  2. If the candidate can be offered a 4th year. In that case, the position entails a compulsory work load of 25% that may consist of teaching, supervision duties, and research assistance
  3. This is an open position where the applicants will be evaluated based on:
  4. Grades on Bachelor and Master courses and the Master’s thesis
  5. A research plan, where the topic must align with one of the research fields covered at the Department.
  6. The research plan can be developed in collaboration with one of the Faculty members at our Department.
  7. A plan on how to contribute in teaching at the Department, and documentation of any past teaching experience.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation.
  2. We seek a highly motivated candidate for a PhD-project in the fields of Geosciences, which includes geology, physical geography and geophysics incl. climate science.
  3. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

  1. The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
  2. The application to the PhD programme must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position.
