The Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science at Norwegian Environment and Biological Sciences (NMBU) is inviting applications for a PhD position in Microbiology (Ref. 18/02982)
About the project:
- Project Title: Mechanical model for the connection between microbiota and short chain fatty acids in the intestine of infants
- The main aim is to understand the relationship between intestinal flora and short chain fatty acids in children in the transition from breast milk to solid food.
- This transition has a major impact on the child’s immunological development. The project is linked to the PreventADALL allergy study at the University of Oslo, which includes 2,500 mothers and their children, and is headed by Prof. Karin C. Lødrup Carlsen.
- The project is collaboration with medical and clinical environments at the University of Oslo. The project is financed by internal funds from NMBU, and to the PreventADALL project.
Duration: 3 years
Funding: The position is funded by NMBU
Qualification:
- Applicant must have relevant education equivalent to a five-year Master’s degree program with 120 credits at the master’s level.
- Applicant must have a strong academic background from previous studies, and be able to document good English, both written and oral.
- Master’s Degree in Microbiology
- Experience with gas chromatography, microbiota analysis, bioinformatic analysis tools
- Basic statistics-knowledge
