The Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen is inviting applications for a PhD position at the Computational Communication and Democracy (CCD) Lab. The position is available under the the lab director, Prof. Yannis Theocharis.

Thematic areas: Digital Media, Participation and Democracy

Duration: 3 years

Starting date: 1 October 2018

Role and responsibilities:

  • The selected candidate will support the lab director in the development of the research area.
  • The selected candidate will be assisting with data collection and data analysis, coordination of existing, and development of new, projects for the acquisition of third-party funding, carrying out administrative tasks related to the Lab’s operation (e.g. coordination of student research assistants), and involvement in the Lab’s publication output.
  • The selected candidate is expected to develop and carry out her/his own PhD project related to the broader research area.
  • The position involves 2 hours of teaching per week.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must hold Master’s in Media and Communication, Political Science, or related disciplines.
  • Applicant must demonstrate skills in quantitative methods.
  • Applicant must have experience with survey research (familiarity with longitudinal and experimental designs is desirable); demonstrate interest in political communication and/or political behaviour, in particular in the effects of digital media on social and political attitudes and behaviours.
  • Applicant must possess command of R (experience with Python is a plus) and strong command of English.
